How often do you need to vacuum your carpets? We recommend setting a vacuuming schedule, and try to vacuum at least once a week in order to remove the carpet fiber damaging dirt and grit that your carpets collect on a daily basis. Usually one vacuuming per week will be enough, but this really depends on how frequently the area is used. For higher-traffic or pet areas, you should try and vacuum these areas daily. Medium-traffic areas require about twice a week and light-traffic areas can be done once a week. Keep your carpets vacuumed and you will cut down on a lot of the stuff that gets ground into the carpet, and your carpets will stay clean a lot longer.
You step in chewing gum out on the street but don’t realize it until you tracked that gross, sticky mess onto your carpet. To get gum out of your carpet, head to the freezer and grab a couple of ice cubes. Freeze the gum with ice cubes for about 30 seconds, or until the gum is frozen solid. Then use a spoon to lift up the glob and cut the strands of carpet as close to the gum as possible. If you cut only a small amount of carpet, the spot shouldn’t be noticeable.
Dab wet messy stains with a cleaning solution and a clean cloth, paper towels, or a sponge instead of rubbing the stain. The key is blotting. Blotting puts a small amount of pressure on the stain to soak it up, while rubbing causes the particles to get ground into the carpet fibers, and this can lead to the premature breakdown of those fibers. You want to try and keep the stain in a small central area, so always blot from the outside of the stain inward, as blotting outward can actually spread the stain and make it larger.
Believe it or not, sometimes the best carpet cleaner for general stains is ordinary shaving cream. It will often remove just about every type of stain. Apply the shaving cream directly to the stain and let it set for about 30 minutes. Once the shaving cream has set, blot it away with a dry white cloth. Finish by spraying the area with one part vinegar mixed with one part water and then wiping away the solution with a cloth.
Deep cleaning your carpet on a regular basis is essential to keeping the carpet looking fresh and new. Deep Green steam cleaning of your carpet involves using a a steam-heated solution and carpet cleaning equipment to inject, agitate and then extract the heated solution, along with a lot of gross stuff. Steam cleaning your carpet helps keep the carpet fibers in the high-wear areas from being permanently damaged, but cannot undo the damage once it has been done. We recommend having your carpets deep cleaned every six months, and more often for larger families and high-traffic areas.
